Step back into history as you become a part of the Butler family love affair with Tybee. H. G. Butler, a lumberman from Nova Scotia and Ireland, came to the area in 1860. He was Tybee's first Mayor! This historic "Tybee raised cottage" has been totally redone in the last two years, but the flavor of the past has been carefully maintained. Thus, it has been nominated for a Georgia Trust Historic Preservation Award and is on the national historic register!
You'll adore the uniquely "old south" comfort of over 1,000 square feet of the upstairs wrap around screened porch! All rooms are lovingly furnished with a mix of wicker, rattan and family antiques. The mayor's bed is still in the house for your use!
The house offers two levels with separate entrances; it's perfect for two families, groups of friends, or branches of one family that desire some privacy. The home is situated on two large lots. Bring your boat, bikes or badminton set, etc. There's plenty of room and secure storage underneath! Parties of up to 8 may rent just the upper level.
On the upper level you'll find the wonderful porch, an expansive living room (with a queen sleeper sofa), large kitchen (eat-in), two spacious bedrooms (each with a queen AND a twin bed), and a large art deco bathroom! Downstairs is the latticed ground level. Wooden gate doors open to a covered area for seating and lazy conversations. Inside doors access three bedrooms, two with a queen bed each and one with a twin; one queen bedroom has a private walk-in tiled shower with toilet. There is a separate half bath with sink and toilet for all to use. Outside is an outdoor shower and a back stairway leading up to the main porch kitchen area.
Thirteen can sleep in beds (including the sofa bed) and there is a queen futon on the screened porch for sleeping if someone chooses to enjoy the ocean breezes overnight!
NOTE: JUST THE UPPER LEVEL OF THE HOME CAN BE RENTED FOR SMALLER PARTIES OF ONE TO EIGHT. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR RATES!
The unique flavor and charm of Tybee's historic masterpiece, Butler Beach House, will enchant you. We look forward to having you visit for years to come! Warmly, Anita Butler and Paula (Butler)Williams... Great-granddaughters of H. G. Butler! It's our pleasure to be your hostesses as we share this island treasure with you! |
