Description: |
| |
Nestled in the Arcadian Mountain of Mainalon, Vytina ( Bytina ), the Myconos of the mountains, has long been a busy all year long mountain resort, famous for its very good climate, exceptional feta cheese and evergreen fern bee honey. Our home at Bytina,(Vytina), Arcadia, in a region and a village re-known for its large black marble stone homes, with a unique vaulted window architecture, our home at Bytina, is right at the center of the village.
A traditional 18th century “Archontiko”, ( large village family home ) it has been in our family for over four generations and we have completely updated and modernized it recently, with an effort not to lose it’s authenticity. The house is two stories high and has a cellar. It has three bedrooms with balconies and views of Mainalon and the village, two bathrooms, and an open space living room, fireplace, dining and kitchen area. It has a large patio at its entrance, this leads to a gated patio ( auli ) which is the entrance to the house and also has a sizable back garden, which is facing the Mainalon Mountain, a large fern evergreen forested covered scene.
In Vytina there are several restaurants, pastry shops and cafes, bakeries, wood carving artist studios, grocery stores,
Bike rentals, bee honey and oregano and other small stores. The whole village is very walkable with its magnificent black marble homes with centuries of local architecture. The people are friendly and very hospitable. Near by at Lousios river there is center for white rafting, fishing, and other outdoor sports. It is very near to Ostakina Mainalon ski resort, Mainalon mountain walks or drives, Lousios river kayak sports and Ladonas river dam, for fresh water fishing. It is a day trip away from sites like Mycenae, Olympia, Patras, Corinth, Sparta, Mistras. The area around Vytina is on of the primary stages where the Greek revolution of 1821 took place and where modern state of Greece was born. It is also the area where many Greek Americans trace their ancestry from.
It is Quintessential Arcadian Greek Village nestled in the mountains. The Ancient Roman poet Virgil put Arcadia on the traveler's map when he described this mountainous district of the Peloponnese as the quintessential land of milk and honey, where shepherds piped ditties to shepherdesses in bee-loud glades. The poet must have had something like Bytina in mind. Even today, around Bytina of Arcadia springs, streams and rivers nourish wildflowers and keep the hills and valleys green with stands of evergreen, cypress, and groves of chestnut, walnut, almond and fruit trees, well into the summer. Sheep bells tinkle in the distance and the atmosphere is heavy with the scent of thyme and oregano as the road writhed up the mountainside. And you need not deprive yourself of modern living comforts to experience this.
Situated within a deep forest of evergreen, almost being engulfed between two gigantic mountaintops of Mainalon, at 1,000 meters elevation and geographically at the center of Peloponnese, Bytina is an authentic, traditional Greek village. It has become a very popular summer resort town, and also a very rare Greek spot for skiing and winter sports, and since it is only 2 1/2 hours from Athens, a popular week-end destination year round for Athenians. It is also a great stop, en-route to Olympia, or while exploring Peloponnese for many European and other international visitors. Make your reservation today! ! ! |
